Random Thoughts on Scrapbooking

Well, with the latest manufacturing design team calls over, I suppose I can breathe a sigh of relief. When I applied for them, I only had the idea for Classy Scrapper Magazine, and had not plunged full force into my plans. As time went on and I started seriously working on the publication, I started to worry about actually getting picked for the Scenic Route team or the Piggy Tales team. It's definitely a blessing in disguise that I didn't get chosen, as it would have probably been a huge conflict of interest if my layouts for them ended up in other publications. But although I know it's a good thing, I still can't help but wonder what the heck was wrong with my work! These are two of the layouts I did for the SR call and I did my best to work with as much of their product as possible and I honestly took on the assignment as if I was already creating an ad layout for them. Guess that approach didn't work well. What the heck was wrong with these layouts?

Oh well, I've got bigger fish to fry, as they say. Starting the magazine has actually been good for my scrapping. I'm wanting to scrap like mad, with no care for trying to achieve a certain look for getting published. I just want my pages to have good design, look great, and really record the memories for Clayton. Isn't that what it's all about anyway?

Ashley, there is absolutely nothing "wrong" with your layouts. On the contrary, they are just beautiful and look right out of a glossy ad!
We never really know what the companies are looking for. It could be that they already had someone who designs on your basic style, so that niche was filled. The bottom line is that these calls now get 500 or more entries and the job of choosing the "winners" is probably as agonizing as it is for those of us who wait for the call that never comes.
As you said - you have your focus now. Onward and upward, my friend!!!

They are great! You have such a great venture with this mag. You will be able to create for YOU- for your own creative outlet. YOU ROCK- and don't let any design team make you think otherwise!

Ashley,

I look at your blog often and finally had to speak up after this post :)....

You are an absolutely amazing scrapper...I completely admire your work! There is not a single thing wrong with any of your layouts. They are always absolutely stunning! I think God was sending you a blessing in disguse, because you have something so much bigger coming up. The old saying...when one door closes, another one opens. He is just leading you in the right direction! Your magazine is going to be absolutely spectacular and I know that because I have seen your work! Please don't ever let anyone make you doubt your talent...because you are one incredibly talented scrapper!!!!

Love,
Jac (fellow SJer)

Ashley, never ever think there is someothing wrong with your work. You are one hugely talented lady and scrapper and it is definately their loss that they let you pass by. I guess we never know what they are looking for when sending out these calls. I like to think that manufacturers choose a wide variety of scrapping styles to suit all the different scrappers out there.

Obviously they just weren't looking for a DT member with your classy style of scrapping at the moment, but your time will come - with awesome LO's like yours it won't be long either.

I think your layouts are classic. Perhaps the DTs were looking for people who do that edgy fad following thing.... they're different, not better
